Western Reserve Eclectic Institute (Hiram, Ohio)
Variant namesWestern Reserve Eclectic Institute was founded by the Disciples of Christ in 1850 in Hiram, Ohio, as a nonsectarian, coeducational college. James A. Garfield was a student at the Institute from 1851-1853 before completing his education at Williams College. Garfield then returned to teach at Western Reserve Eclectic Institute before becoming its Principal. Western Reserve Eclectic Institute changed its name to Hiram College in 1867.
