Joaquim Nabuco was the Brazilian ambassador to the United States. In 1908, Antonio Carlos Botelho who had attended Cornell wrote to Nabuco that Mr. Hunt, one of his professors, had recommended Clinton D. Smith (Class of 1873) and professor of agriculture at the Michigan Agricultural College) to teach at the agricultural college at Piracicaba, Sao Paulo.
