King went to England as private secretary to his half-brother, Rufus King, who was the United States Minister to Great Britain from 1796 to 1803. When Cyrus King returned he practiced law in Saco, Mass., later in Maine, and was a Federalist Representative in the U.S. Congress, 1813-1817.
