Born in Lenox, Massachusetts, March 22, 1786; graduated at Williams College, admitted to bar and was an able lawyer at Cooperstown, New York; appointed by President Jackson as a Supreme Court judge of the Michigan Territory, 1832; retired from the bench in 1844; died in Detroit, Mich, March 8, 1845.
